Public bug reported: Installing the package ubuntu-desktop on an Ubuntu Server installation using:
sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-desktop does not result in an usable minimal desktop. It is not possible to run any applications, because the Applications lens is missing, and it's not possible to log out since there is no session indicator. To fix this, these packages should be added to Depends: - unity-lens-applications - indicator-session The following packages are not required for desktop functionality, yet they are in Depends: - checkbox-qt - eog - gnome-calculator - gnome-font-viewer - gnome-screenshot - gucharmap - nautilus-sendto - software-center - update-notifier ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: ubuntu-desktop 1.299 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-19.29-generic 3.8.8 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-19-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8.3 Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Aug 8 15:22:10 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-08-07 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130423.1) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: ubuntu-meta UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug gnome3-ppa raring third-party-packages -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1210138 Title: Installing ubuntu-desktop without recommends does not result in an usable minimal desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1210138/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
