The mp3 option only appeared for me after I installed "Ubuntu restricted extras" as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats. I understand the issues with not bundling mp3 encoding software with Ubuntu, but why would I have to install this package to simply have the MP3 option appear on the list? I already had the gstreamer plugins installed as well as lame and it still wasn't appearing.
