Downgrading to the feisty versions of xorg, xserver-xorg, xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-input-all (& drivers), xserver-xorg-video-all (&drivers) solved the problem, so it's probably not directly related to glibc. I'm going to do some tests to find the real culprit out of these.
