fully right Stephen, I've developed the following plans, since I took over the project 2 years ago, to address this problem: - make nut configless for USB UPS. NUT 2.2.0 has opened the door to the HAL bridge. but for those still needing a classic NUT installation (for redundancy, network UPS server, ...), some udev scripting is still to be done (see below) - create a configuration library (to allow GUI and other conf helpers, such as debconf) and a basic helper (upsconfig). This has already been developed, along with a new conf file format, is scheduled for 2.4 and is available here as a separate branch: http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/nut/branches/JD-NewConf/?rev=0&sc=0
I would have made it available for long, but sadly, the problem is and remain the lack of manpower, and of time from the major developers...
