Ubuntu 12.04.2. Ubuntu logs off randomly. Something unusual happends in my case. When the screen goes blank, if you do not move the mouse or press any key, wait for some time, and then slide your finger on the mousepad, the system goes back to normal. But if the screen goes blank (you panic) and press any key immediately or do some mouse clicks, it goes to the login screen.
