Yep, linux-next is a real, great improvement. I took the latest snapshot from https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/backports/2013/06/18/ + ran make defconfig-ath9k && make && sudo make install. Hopefully the patches will get in soon enough, so that I don't need to rerun the module building every time kernel updates.
