After updating the BIOS from A03 to A08 the problem seems to have disappeared. Thanks a lot, I wouldn't have thought that updating the BIOS would fix this kind of strange problem, and I wasn't really eager to deal with Dell's stupid utilities, but I got it to work on a emulated floppy image on a CD-RW. I hope I didn't waste too much of your time.
