Public bug reported: When I go to the regular Ubuntu download page http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop it tells me that I need to get the 64-bit download if I am using UEFI firmware, and suggests 64-bit for "newer machines". This is good information.
However, when I go to the Xubuntu download page http://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/ it tells me I should usually get the 32-bit download, which is really not correct. And then if I click through to a mirror site, such as the U.S. site: http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso/CDs-Xubuntu/13.04/release/ that page tells me I should download the 32-bit image unless I have an AMD 64-bit processor, which is definitely not correct. I have an Intel 64-bit processor, not an AMD, so it made me think I should download the 32-bit image. But this is incorrect -- I need the 64-bit image. So... I am filing this report to suggest that the Xubuntu download documentation be changed so that it: (a) suggests 64-bit for "newer" machines instead of implying it is only for AMD 64-bit processors (b) tells you that you need the 64-bit download if you are using UEFI. I hope that I've filed this in the right place... I'm a major contributor to the Drupal open-source project, but am less familiar with the Ubuntu issue filing procedures. Apologies if this is not the right place to file this suggestion. ** Affects: xubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1191887 Title: Xubuntu download page has misleading 32/64 bit information To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xubuntu-docs/+bug/1191887/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
