Public bug reported:

Simply, sound volume was on mute when system was shut down. upon restart
of system sound completely fails to function although all tests indicate
that sound should be being produced. this is now the second Ubuntu
install which has demonstrated the exact same sound failure problem. I
am NOT a programmer, nor a "debugger". which is why I chose Ubuntu 12.04
Desktop LTS to begin with. I just want the Sound to work upon restart
without this recurrent Failure to function. - ALSO: Ask Ubuntu does NOT
allow me to log-in in order to post issue related questions. Although it
should when using the exact same email address and password as is being
used here.
