Saw the "Invalid" status. Perhaps I should explain further. The Fn key combo was pre-assigned on the laptop by DELL and worked very well with 12.04, 12.10 & 13.04 versions of Ubuntu.
Since at present there is no way to save my brightness settings to my account, I could set the brightness each time using the Fn key combo at any time I booted up. The default brightness setting was at maximum (for which I am thankful). After upgrading to 13.10, this feature does not work as it is supposed to. This leads me to believe that this is OS related. All I want to do is to get back the functionality. The solution provided above messed up my system. For someone else, this could have meant returning the laptop to the service centre for repair as the OS was not loading. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181512 Title: Cannot adjust screen brightness To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1181512/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
