I'm not sure why the filer of this bug let it die, but I have a great
interest in seeing this addressed:

I already have a jdk installed and configured (although not with dpkg or
using apt-get). I would like to install ant without installing a jdk.
(Hopefully this isn't too far from the OP's original intent.) Let me
know if I can provide anything else.
