Public bug reported: After update to 13.04, I noticed high cpu percentages for plasma-desktop and for Xorg. 'top' shows plasma-desktop using 90-100% of a cpu, and Xorg using about 40-50%. If I use gdb to attach to the plasma-desktop main process pid, then (of course) p-d goes to zero cpu percentage, and Xorg goes to less than 5%.
I'll attach a log of a gdb session where I ^C'd the p-d process several times, then did 'where' after each interruption. The log also shows the result of running 'strace -p xxxx' on the p-d process, FWIW. root@terry-vm:~# uname -a Linux terry-vm 3.8.0-19-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 17 18:16:28 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux root@terry-vm:~# ubuntu LSB Version: core-2.0-amd64:core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-amd64:core-3.0-noarch:core-3.1-amd64:core-3.1-noarch:core-3.2-amd64:core-3.2-noarch:core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 13.04 Release: 13.04 Codename: raring The version of plasma-desktop is 4:4.10.2-0ubuntu2 After I updated to 13.04, the graphical updater quit at the very end of the "updating" phase, and warned that the system might be un-usable, although I have not noticed any obvious missing pieces of my usual Kubuntu environment. I use the Nvidia video driver, so I took the opportunity to download the latest driver from Nvidia, compiled and installed that. I'll attach the related Xorg.0.log file, FWIW. ** Affects: kde-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "log file of gdb and strace outputs" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173521/+attachment/3655937/+files/gdb.on.plasma-desktop.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173521 Title: plasma-desktop burning 90-100% of a cpu (after update to raring) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-workspace/+bug/1173521/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
