Your description seems unrelated to the actual content of the log files which indicate that your system ran out of memory when trying to install a package. Additionally, I believe you are actually describing update- notifier which can have an icon in the systray / taskbar. The icon you are describing indicates a failure in the package management system and that failure is likely due to the dpkg error when trying to replace apparmor. You'll need to manually resolve the lack of memory issue by closing applications so that the package installation process can complete successfully.
