Had this problem in 12.10 (upgraded from 12.04) and now in 13.04
(upgraded from 12.10). Unchecking "Available to all users" on the
ethernet connection in network config seems to resolve it. The strange
thing is, even though I have now re-enabled "Available to all users" on
eth0, the problem is still fixed. Perhaps NetworkManager config just
needed a jiggle. I've put some lsof debugging in /etc/init.d/umountroot
in case it happens again..
