Ubuntu has installed the obsolete "oki4drv" driver for you. On linuxprinting.org (and this is the information which all distributions, including Ubuntu, use to determine which printer driver to use) the recommended driver is "oki4w", which is a built-in GhostScript driver which does not use any extra daemon (like "oki4drv" uses). See
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=oki4w The driver is built into the ESP GhostScript which comes with Ubuntu Linux. Verify with gs -h | grep oki4w In case of failure make sure to use the curremt versionof Ubuntu, as Matthias Klose already suggested. If it still fails, file a bug against the gs-esp package as it is supposed that all its built-in drivers are really activated. Use the PPD for this driver. In the gnome-cups-manager choose the driver name "oki4w". To avoid any confusion I recommend to the maintainer of the foomatic-db package in Ubuntu to remove the "oki4drv" driver XML file during package build: rm -f db/source/driver/oki4drv.xml ** Changed in: cupsys (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: cupsys => foomatic-db -- OKIPage 4W printer problems https://launchpad.net/bugs/19437 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
