In Dapper, the SMB item in the Places menu and the icon on the desktop produce the same result, so I would say this bug is now obsolete.
(However, the result is a dialog saying The folder contents could not be displayed. Sorry, couldn't display all the contents of "Windows Network: 192.168.0.4". which I think is quite misleading, as the other machine simply isn't there.
