Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg
The PowerTop utility blames the radeon module for causing a lot of interrupts (60 per second) on my laptop. This appears to prevent the system from entering C3 mode and makes batteries last shorter. Presumably this is due to vertical blanking interrupts. Apparently the Intel graphics driver was recently fixed to enable Vblank interrupts only when somebody was interested and not all of the time. Likely the radeon module has the same problem (actually I've noticed on another machine that mga does this as well, generates 85 interrupts/sec constantly, corresponding to screen refresh rate). See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7119#c26 and http://tirdc.livejournal.com/10517.html There is a branch where a lot of these interrupts are avoided: http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=mesa%2Fdrm.git&a=shortlog&h=vblank-rework One should investigate the stability and success (saved wakeups) of this branch to further improve battery live of notebooks. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- DRI graphics drivers causes too many wakeups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127252 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
