The interpretation I make of your Xorg.log output, (and someone more knowledgable than I should correct me if I get this wrong) is:
1. You got a perfectly good EDID transfer that described your monitor. 2. Your monitor said the ONLY video mode it will accept is 1280x800. 3. The BIOS of the video card said it would accept 1280x1024, but made no mention 1280x800, and so the X server concluded it could not work.
