I still have this problem with 12.10 up to date with proposed. It's not just the launcher that is a problem, but the whole system is very frequently very sluggish...
Attached is a screenshot of the system monitor CPU graph when this happens. The CPU load goes most of the time up to 100%, whereas the RAM stays at 60% in that case (just Chromium, PCManFM and Thunderbird are open). Does this tell you anything else? I am really willing to fix this as this is my primary computer for home and work and it just slows me down so much... I reckon I use twice as much time to get things done... I am trying to use lighter apps, like PCManFM, but it doesn't help... Please let me know what extra information I can provide.
