Workaround is to open the panel settings (e.g. by clicking on another plugin), 
then go to "panel objects".
This is also a way to open the plugin's settings.

If you have selected a "border around the elements" (on the advanced
tab), you can click on the border above or below the graph.

note: My XFCE is set to German language, so the option names may be
inaccurate.
