I was experiencing the same issue with 12.10 and reminna under unity. It was unusable for my work and almost caused me to go back to Windows or try fedora.
I installed gnome-shell and use that instead of Unity now and the experience is much better. I did like a lot of the unity stuff but now I can keep reminna open for days at a time and I am able to work without constantly opening a new reminna window or trying to find the window I have open Its not perfect but its a lot better.
