This bug affects me using Ubuntu 12.10 and Libreoffice Writer, Version 3.6.2.2 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:2)) . Fixed by:
sudo apt-get install myspell-en-gb Suggest myspell-en-gb is included in default Ubuntu install manifest. Note: I always complete the language support install as in #4, so didn't work for me.
