alsa-base 1.0.14-1ubuntu1 already does this. From debian/rules:

        # neither snd-cx88-alsa nor snd-saa7134-alsa exist;
        #   strip the leading snd-
        sed -e 's/snd-cx88-alsa/cx88-alsa/g;s/snd-saa7134-alsa/saa7134-alsa/g' 
-i debian/alsa-base/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
