Public bug reported: - Some tools take whole RAM then system try to use SWAP. CPU get 100% at that time.
Actually It's a problem I have faced in many distributions. I used Ubuntu from 7.04 . I used to install Alpha, Beta, Experimental versions of may tools from ppa or locally ...Windows compiled with wine or even some plugins in firefox like (flash, some WebGL pages). It happens to me many time with 'Tracker' while indexing. It does open many process (more then 220 process !!!!!) like in Ubuntu 12.04 from official repository. - When CPU get 100% at that time. Mouse and GUI like freezing and very slow mouse with no interaction. - Switching into terminal like tty6 (/sbin/getty) alt+ctrl+f6. it takes some time like a minute then it shows up as login: (but not in all cases) - Writing username takes some time then 'Enter' almost I get Time Out if it does not come back after 60 sec. or even if I login, login msg shows. but no terminal. One time I left my machine like that for more then 30 min . I don't know if is possible to use tty terminal as way to recover system without reboot buy killing those processes, if getty was running with higher priority instead of normal.
