The way I was doing it: Download the linux.image....deb and linux-image-extra.....deb (2 files, for your architecture 64-bit/32-bit)
Install: $ sudo dpkg -i linux-image...deb linux-image-extra...deb [Enter] [password] reboot Test by downloading a file (from a good source, like a computer in your home network) Use the same file (one, big, eg the Ubuntu ISO) Note the transfer speed. To remove the "test" kernel just uninstall it by: sudo apt-get remove linux-image.... (IMPORTANT: check the version!!!) linux-image-extra....
