I have tested the kernel from: http://people.canonical.com/~arges/lp1107642/
and
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/
I have with both these kernels no issues. I have a console and also can start x.

The only weird thing is that plymouth says it will load the i915 driver
which i think is not the right one because the monitor is attached to
the amd graphics adapter. if i disable the i915 driver it says loading
radeon and also completes without issues.

I have attached the dmesg and plymouth-debug log for the latest mainline
kernel
