Public bug reported:

I am bugsmashing on raring, using the mainline 3.8.0-030800rc3-generic
kernel, and kde 4.9.98 - last night, I decided to customize the colors
on my interface, use some different icons, and so on. When I tried to
change the workspace appearance and color schemes from within the
kcmmodule in systemsettings, kwin immediately died and restarted itself
momentarily on every click of the "save" button. This is repeatable,
assuming you have a similar setup to what I'm running now.
