Public bug reported:

Until Edgy, the quiet option given to the vmlinuz kernel in
/boot/grub/menu.lst would output a minimal number of messages while
booting (i.e. when splash is not on). We used to see only the mounting
of the filesystems and a few other messages. Now in Feisty, the kernel
no longer heeds the quiet option, it seems. All the messages: starting
this daemon, starting that daemon get displayed even when using quiet,
which is pretty annoying. I am using the standard un-updated kernel that
comes with Kubuntu Feisty CD.

$ uname -r
2.6.20-15-generic
