With 2) being fixed now in quantal the problem no longer occurs.
Blacklisting my ATI Radeon 4670 by adding v1002d9490.* to 
/boot/grub/gfxblacklist.txt gave the problem that I could not switch back to 
VT7 (screen remains black) after switching to VT1...6, so marking 
grub-gfxpayload-lists and linux tasks as invalid.
