Ok it seems to work fine with 3.8.0-030800rc4-generic, forget my prevous comment I wasnt running the correct kernel.
This I tested on a fujitsu u772 with the RTS5229 PCI Express Card Reader, I can read and write to the SDCard. Te only this I see is the Invalid Allocation Unit size message from the kernel, but it works so far ok. [ 3355.880307] mmc0: SD Status: Invalid Allocation Unit size.
