Christopher M. Penalver, I had the same error message for all the 3.8 rc headers kernel (from rc1 to rc4) so I never installed the headers of the mentioned kernels. I thought it was normal, because in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1067452/comments/2 Joseph Salisbury said to install "both the linux-image and linux-image- extra .deb packages."
