The hdaps driver in mainline Linux is broken on recent ThinkPad models, and unreliable on older models. Use the modified hdaps driver bundled with tp_smapi (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/tp_smapi). It it rewritten to correctly follow the embedded controller protocol.
