Looks like in my case, the issue did end up being hardware.. or 3.5+ kernel fault tolerance. After doing multiple SMART scans and replacing my cabling and still getting corruption (but only in 3.5+ kernels while 3.2 continued to be ok), I finally removed the hard drive from the case bay (which has a bracket adapter where you plug in the power and sata cable) and I am getting no corruption at all anymore in the 3.5+ kernels.
In summary, plugging the power cable and SATA cable directly to the power supply and motherboard (with no bracketing connectors between) fixed all my corruption issues in the 3.5+ kernel. (whereas the same bracketing works fine with 3.2 kernel) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063354 Title: Sudden Read-Only Filesystems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1063354/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
