I have been testing the network-manager-gnome package in the precise- proposed repository (0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.1) for a few weeks now, but unfortunately the applet menu still stopped working on several occasions. Unfortunately it looks like the problem is still not completely fixed with this latest update, though (subjectively) it now seems to take longer to occur.
