This appears to be hitting me as well with a Canon Ixus 310HS (interestingly, I had this same model before with no issues, then had to replace it and now I do). Reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1096463
Please let me know if any log files or similar would assist.
