Public bug reported: There's a known bug with poppler which breaks printing of PDFs with certain UTF-8 symbols from evince (and probably others). The bug is fixed upstream in poppler 0.22.0. Please consider updating libpoppler or backporting the fix (see linked bug report for details).
Steps to reproduce: 1. Open attached 4-page PDF in evince 2. Choose File -> Print 3. Click Print Preview The resulting preview is a blank page. The same happens if you attempt to print the document. The following is output to stdout: $ evince notes.pdf BAD status: input string not valid UTF-8 BAD status: input string not valid UTF-8 BAD status: input string not valid UTF-8 Internal Error: cairo context error: input string not valid UTF-8 Internal Error: cairo context error: input string not valid UTF-8 Internal Error: cairo context error: input string not valid UTF-8 Internal Error: cairo context error: input string not valid UTF-8 ** Affects: poppler Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: poppler (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "PDF to reproduce the problem" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1096685/+attachment/3475659/+files/notes.pdf ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #53925 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53925 ** Also affects: poppler via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53925 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1096685 Title: poppler feeds invalid UTF-8 to cairo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/poppler/+bug/1096685/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
