The apport information is now provided after succesful Ubuntu
installation using HDMI port. I retried installation with Ubuntu 12.10
CD without any command options, but having a TV set connected to HDMI
port. Acer's own screen went black and remained as such, but by means of
FN+F5 keys I got the graphics visible in the TV.

I still get no graphics in the Acer's own screen (and getting anything
to TV requires HDMI cable switching & FN+F5), and the Grub doesn't seem
to manage the dual boot. I can boot to Windows 8 and to Linux by forcing
the BIOS boot order.
