The screen goes completely black when booting from the liveUSB, whether the option is to "Install elementary OS" or "try... without installing". This has happened to me before while using the Gnome Shell Remix of Ubuntu 12.04. The first few months of using 12.04 were fine; the problem appeared after an update (I can't remember the time period, specifically). At first I could use the desktop environment fine without any problems. As time went by, the screen would just go black for no apparent reason. It got worse as time went by, and pretty soon after every boot up the screen would black out. I bring it up because maybe (I think) it's relevant to this problem. ('Course, could be a problem just on my end, in which case, that would suck even more). The thing is - despite the black screen - the computer responds to input: for example, pressing super + some F(n) keys would occasionally cause the screen to flicker / display the login screen as one would see it normally for a split-second, showing the username / password fields. You can move the cursor, click around, and the system will respond - you just can't see anything. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Black screen on startup - nothing is visible (intel) unless nomodeset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
