I'm not quite sure which suggestion you refer to, but the way I see it,
providing some information in the case where there is a mismatch between
the interfaces listed in /etc/iftab and interfaces present on the system
would help track down this problem.  I'm certainly not suggesting
outputting warnings on every boot on a correctly configured system.

I know an incorrect configuration is a relatively rare occurrence, but
it will happen when you replace networking hardware or move a system
disk.  I think the system should support or help diagnose this situation
as far as possible.
