Affects me as well. Roughly 25% of the times I boot my computer, I get a completely blank screen instead of the dm-crypt passphrase prompt. Typing in the passphrase works buts results in a blank screen when logging into ubuntu (or kubuntu in my case). This could be resolved by pulling the monitor plug and plugging it back in again (or probably by switching screens with CTRL-ALT-F6 /F7 as OP noted).
Computer is a Dell laptop with a monitor plugged in via HDMI on boot. Unsure exactly which dumps are useful so I will do those relevant for me that the OP did: $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release: 12.04 $ apt-cache policy dmsetup dmsetup: Installed: 2:1.02.48-4ubuntu7.1 Candidate: 2:1.02.48-4ubuntu7.1 Version table: *** 2:1.02.48-4ubuntu7.1 0 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:1.02.48-4ubuntu7 0 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages $ uname -a Linux leob-hp 3.2.0-34-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 15 10:48:16 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/816267 Title: encryption (dm-crypt) passphrase prompt on oneiric does not set focus automatically for input during boot up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/816267/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
