I don't have access to that machines now, but I can tell you that I started normal, got rw-------, and went telinit 1 and it went ok: rw-rw-rw- When I went normal and said: killall5 and /etc/init.d/single, it was unchanged: rw-------. I'll try more things tomorrow... Very strange bug/feature :)
