Same bug here. Presist in 12.10. I cannot install 12.10 because of this bug. When I do install and run update, the system has the exact behaviors described above. Running an Nvidia 560Ti Graphics card with current dricers. Doing the fix for nvidia proposed in other bugs and threads doe not resolve the issue and/or cannot be performed because of this freeze.
