Just downgraded because of issues with ATI proprietary drivers (open
sourced drivers don't recognize my card), the 3.5 kernel, X11, and the
Gnome3-Team/Gnome3 PPA. That said, I had gotten so used to recording
things on my desktop - now I suddenly lack the capability. It appears
that the gnome3-team/gnome3 ppa for precise no longer contains the
gnome-shell package, so no help there. So, now I'm stuck with the
precise repositories crippled version in this respect. I glanced over
the source and noted that the recording is done through GStreamer, so I
installed all GStreamer sets (good, bad, and ugly) to no avail.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit
