Regarding the bug, Ubuntu wants to attract windows users, which means usually they will dual boot. Windows 7 has in place that if the MBR is not correct it will not allow SP upgrades. Much like the secure boot fiasco with windows 8. If we tamper(adjust) with the MBR of a novice user and reduce the functionality of their machine without their knowledge I think that is a failure on our behalf, not a bug in windows.
