I had this problem with Debian squeeze and it disappeared under Ubuntu
12.04, but reappeared now with 12.10.

File copy stalls copying directories with many (>100, >1000) files from
a network share.

And in not only happens with NAUTILUS, but also with THUNAR, the xfce
file manager, so it probably is not really a nautilus problem.
