I am having some trouble installing snd-hda-tools from the ppas. I get W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/diwic/ppa/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found
when I do apt-get update. I finally found an external microphone and plugged it in. Didn't get any sound at all. when I plugin the headphone, alsamixer shows the change in levels from internal speakers to earphone. However, when I plugin the external microphone alsamixer does not show any change. The input sound level indicator sound settings does not show any signs of the external microphone working.
