Thanks for the reply. i was using Ubuntu 12.04 and upgraded to 12.10. 12.04 was functioning fine but when i upgraded i could no longer access the system settings, the clock went away and the battery remaining time went away. when i click on the system settings drop-down nothing happens. Please keep in mind I know very little about the Linux OS. thanks Trey
