I purchased the laptop about 4 months or so ago.  As a matter of
practice any computer that I purchase used - I always test everything
that it comes with before putting Ubuntu on it.  It originally came with
Windows Vista.  The wired network worked fine with it and so did
everything else.  I initially replaced WIndows Vista with Ubuntu 12.04
and when 12.10 came out I upgraded.  Unfortunately with Ubuntu the wired
connection has never worked.
