I'm not sure what you mean there  because I can only find one way of
managing repositories: the Adept --> Manage Repositories menu.

That said, I have now discovered that there is a way of toggling the
backport repositories after all. The problem is that it is not where I
would have expected it to be. I would have expected to find it under the
(K)ubuntu Sources tab, because that is where the other Ubuntu and
Canonical repositories are managed. In fact it's controlled from the
"Unsupported updates" check box in the Updates tab.

In other words the problem is really that the placing of this particular
option in the gui is (IMO) counterintuitive.
