" lib64ncurses5 is really just libncurses5" Bugged, I was afraid it was going to be something like that.
libncurses5:i386 was already installed when things were failing and since it is a 32 bit binary (file filename confirms ELF 32-bit LSB executable, dynamically linked and using shared links) I have no idea why it is asking for 64 bit ncurses. The binary does not officially support Ubuntu server (RedHat / Centos only) although it works on my Kubuntu 10.04 desktop installation. I am guessing something changed between ncurses 5.7 (ubuntu 10.04) and 5.9-4 (ubuntu 12.04) which breaks this particular program. Maybe it is checking for or expecting specifically old versions which 10.04 just happened to be compatible with; ah the joys and vagaries of closed- source software. Anyway, this does not appear to be an issue with ncurses or Ubuntu so I shall close this ticket and go with centos this time. ** Changed in: ncurses (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075081 Title: lib64ncurses5 cannot be installed on 12.04 64 bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ncurses/+bug/1075081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
